Sounds like there is some kind of inflammation going on there!! Sorry you are suffering so! I have no ideas or advice... have you talked to your doctor?

Yes I mentioned at my lst visit but I guess I did not make it clear, I needed some suggestions for something besides Tramadol or vicodin Vicodin will dull the pain but I hate taking it so often. This is one area the enbrel has not made any difference I started it in July. I see you are just starting it. I can tell you it has made a difference in getting out of bed in mornings but the doctor wants to give it three more months she was disappointed I was not seeing greater results. I hope it works well for you. I use the self injecting pen rather than a syringe.

Icing the area helps me.
Some people swear by the seat cushion you can buy at Walgreens with the big hole or, um, crack down the middle to alleviate pressure on your tailbone. I never found much relief from this, even after I broke my tailbone a couple of decades ago. But I've heard from pletny of people who swear it helps them get thru the day.
I also like to go to a pool, or even just a hot tub and just float in whatever position feels best. You can use a noodle, or a raft, or no props and just enjoy the sensation of weightlessness. Taking the weight off for a while feels so good, and I even feel better for a while after.
Besides that, maybe your dr. can add more meds? Methotrexate or some other DMARDs in addition to the Enbrel has made a difference for many people (myself included).
Sorry that you are suffering.

barta, sorry my reply wasn't very helpful. It's good to hear the Enbrel is helping other areas!
For pain/inflammation, how about NSAIDs? Are you on one/have you tried one?
In your initial post I think you said PT stops the pain? Do you have exercises you were doing that helped? Maybe you could go to PT to regroup/get new exercises? Or did I mis-read?
My heating pad is my best friend with the "way low" pain. It's not convenient when I'm out & about of course! I find those over the counter "icy hot" or heat patches can help as well. Also there are Lidoderm patches, by prescription, that some folks here swear by (they didn't work for me.)

Not sure if this helps, but the SI injections helped my tailbone area alot. It sounds like yours is alot worse than mine was. I am amazed how you describe it, lol. It's not funny, but gosh how else do we make these drs understand how we feel? Have you had any steroid injections?
I would be unstoppable, if I could just get started.

Myre, that is a good point. When I was trying to understand some tailbone pain I was having a while back I learned that pain we perceive there, can actually be referred from SIJs or lumbar spine. Clear as mud!

I get that bad tailbone pain too. Mine is referred pain from SI joints, because every time I get injections there the pain goes away. You might ask about injections....also if it is pain from right in the tailbone I think they can inject around that area too. So sorry you are having this bad pain!
