Well, I am hla neg...but there are other genes now that are involved. So we all know it is possible to pass this disease on. My dd also has another persistent complaint..so that is three weird off the wall things going on with my 3 year old dd. First, she complains about her legs hurting her a lot..more than the normal growing pains. Then she has one finger nail, her thumb nail that is pitting...she tells me she didnt do it that it is an owie. THe last one, which is completely odd is she complains to me that her teeth hurt her. She goes to the dentist often and has no cavities, and the even did an xray that was perfect. So I guess it will just be a wait and see kind of thing. It does make me sad to think that these diseases pop up in children. To think I got pissed off getting it at 29, when babies are suffering. So sad. Good luck to all of you parents with kids that suffer from these horrible symptoms.

Kelly, My daughter was diagnosed at 3 years old. Her story started with strep including fever and rash. Fever wouldn't leave, rashes kept coming and going. Then she stopped walking. Blood tests ruled out cancer and other big scary stuff. Four months later, after getting better and worse repeatedly, we were referred to Ped Rhuemy who diagnosed JSpA, probably psoriatic. My daughter's symptoms came and went and included everything. She too was too young to articulate where exactly her legs were hurting. She would point to any visible scratch or bruise. She also has pitted fingernails (barely visible). Before diagnoses she went thru feet, ankles, hips, tailbone, hands, wrists, elbows, and jaw - none of which showed any swelling, redness or heat. Symptoms started with her waking several times a night with her hands or feet in discomfort. It was approximately 1 week later that her whole body flared and she stopped walking, talking and eating. Kids are really tricky. I'd get your daughter in to a Ped Rheumy ASAP even if it's just a precaution. My daughter's Ped and Rheumy both repeatedly tell me kids don't want to be in pain, they'll try to ignore it. If she's coming to you in tears she needs evaluation - Of course, only my opinion!! Good luck! Kirsten, Mom to Katherine, almost 5, juvenille spondyloarthropathy and her big brothers age 7 & 9

Hi
My daughter was 8 when she first showed signs.
At first she said her hip/bum area were hurting and after a trip to the GP's it was dismissed as a pulled muscle. We used to laugh about her achey bottom!
I persisted with the doctors and thankfully we got a diagnosis after about 9 months. Since then she has (touch wood) responded well to treatment.
I wish you luck with your little one.

I daughter is driving me crazy...every night, and sometimes during the day, she cries and whines about how her legs hurt her. Sometimes it is her knees, or her ankles, even just her feet, but generally her legs. She will be 4 in October. She will cry genuine tears, and it isnt to get attention or any alternative reason. She is having legitimate pain. IS she ust having growing pains, or does anyone think she could be having early symptoms of arthritis of some sort? She does have a history of eczema. I am so worried about her. I feel badly about it. She just got over a horrible kidney infection. I had to rush her to urgent care because she started screaming when she urinated, and her urine was nothing but blood. It happened at 9:00 at night on a Friday night...the doctor said her urine culture was nothing but puss and blood...she was in so much pain! She just keeps getting sick over and over. I am at my wits end over this. I want my baby to be well! Any advice is appreciated. Now another complaint is her tummy is bothering her..I just dont know what to do anymore. Help, please!

Eczema isn't related to bone or joint problems, arthritis or cancer or otherwise. Have you told her doctor about her complaints? That should be the starting point rather than asking opinions here... as a mother you should have instinct here - trust it. Nobody here can diagnose your daughter.

Yes I second that. She has had so many problems lately learn from your own example and get her checked though im sure theyll say growing pains. BUt even though you dont like doctoors for yourself you cannot properly diagnose her. Nor can we since its not her telling us all thats wrong. Its hard with children. It may be tummy issues from the anti biotic? is she constipated? When is her follow up on the UTI ask them then on tummy. Since your negsative on HLA gene it would be rarer than rare that she will get AS from you!!! Eczema isnt psoriasis so shes not PSA And at that age it still could be for attention tears and all. Did something happen at the beach? Maybe just since she was more active than normal sitting home with you in your pain that she over used herself a bit. If your worried do something about it. Children dont have the power we do to live through or with things.

I did read back and saw the bit about nail pitting. U need to go see if she actually has psoriasis then! and its possible maybe thats what you have you dont have to have scaly skin to have it. But get her in somewhere!! Thats the best thing you can do for her.

Trout, it is possible my daughter has PsA with the nail pitting, but it is not possible that I have it, My diagnosis is AS, and it is very FIRM. Nothing will be changing that diagnosis, unless Dr. Reveille likes to go back on his word and tell a patient he has seen in his gene study they no monger has a disease that he told them they did indeed have. Oh and since there are several genes that make up AS, it is very possible for me to pass AS on to my children even though I am B27 neg..it could be passed via another gene. I never thought my kids could get blue eyes since neither me nor my hubby has them, yet both of my kids have blue eyes...ALl I know is I am worried for my daughter. Thanks for the input.
