I only drink water, iced tea (w/sweet n low) and coffee with sugar free creamer and splenda. That's it. Maybe one Diet Rite soda a week. Sorry, but I can't give up my coffee They'd boot me out at work I'd be such a basket case.
But I'm up for any suggestions. My doctor tested my thyroid for hypothyroid, would that make it harder to lose weight? Isn't hypo where your body doesn't burn calories like it should? Isn't hypo thyroid quite common in people with AS? Lots of questions, anyone know the answers?
btw Kelly, I sooo can relate to the husband fitting into your jeans thing! When my hubby and I were first married, he was so darn skinny he could wear my jeans Now to my dismay, my jeans fall off of him (and he's also gained weight over the years!)

I had the same problem when I got diagnosed. They put me on pred which really helped but I gain a ton of weight which two years later I still have. I exercise but not like I did before I got sick and I eat really well. SO I had sucess with the weight watchers program before I got sick so I am going to try to again. Cross your fingers! I am sick of all this extra weight. I feel like a freakin cow! Oh I also joined the 50 million pound challege to keep track because I am not officially going to weight watchers.

Hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) does make it hard for you to lose weight - I have a good friend with this problem (prior to getting treatment she also felt cold all the time, had dry skin and her hair was falling out).
an eat better/get moving thread seems like a good idea
Last night I started a special training program for people with AS - about 30 mins of lecture, 30 mins of stretching/warm up exercises and then about an hour in the pool (hydrotherapy with a physiotherapist) it was great but I feel a bit tired today.
one really good thing about it is that's it's free - provided by our public health system
I am trying to start a Weight Watchers group at work too

Kelly, I would suggest joining Weight Watchers. They are a great organization, no one ridicules anyone else because of weight--they're all in the same situation. I lost 78 pounds in 9 months through weight watchers and have kept it off for over 8 years. They support each other, and have great tips on what to eat when you need to snack. You can lose weight even without exercising with weight watchers, but ultimately, it is all a matter of less calories in than what goes out, unfortunately.

I feel your pain Kelly. I was on pred for a little over a year and gained 60 pounds. I finally got fed up b/c my doc was not agreeable to helping me change treatment plans, so I started tapering myself off ( i know..that was BAD). I did the somersizing diet for a bit and that took off almost all of the weight, but it's a wee bit frustrating to follow it. I'm still working on losing the last 20lbs. Exercising when I dont' feel run down, drinking a TON of water, cut out cokes, don't keep sugar in the house...etc. It's going SLOW...but I'm trying to be patient-however, i've got to admit that patience runs thin when you've only taken off 3 lbs in the month. Ugh. Best of luck to you all!!!

Where do you think I should start? I can't join any program, but thanks for the suggestion. I have been thinking about a simple walk every day with my kids, but I am afraid it might be too much with this flare up I am in. As far as the food I eat, how can I cut things out, or choose better things, to loose weight..I am so sick of being overweight...please ladies, give me any tricks you might have up your sleeves..I need them bad. I have zero self esteem left. I am 30..this is when I should be loving my womanly body, but I hate it....HELP!!!!!
