Hi to everyone. I haven't been on the message board for months now. Obviously I should have been. Lately I have been feeling like I live this very boring and isolated life. I am now on Remicade, asacol, tramacet, zytram. For the most part I feel much better but the symptoms are all here but aleviated. It seems like by the time I get up,do some housework and maybe walk abit thats it for the day I am exhausted. I want to get out and do something. How and what is the thing. I do knit and try to sew abit. On my good days I bake bread or buns but that will exhaust me for the day. Please help. Anyone.

You are not alone - I too know what you are going through. Sounds like you may have some depression going along with the flares, too. I know that feeling well. Having been a single parent for many years living with undiagnosed AS, I've learned that there are times when I need to put myself first. As wives and mothers we learn to care for everyone else first and we put ourselves on the back burner.
I recognize that I have to work at bringing joy into my life. Some days are easier than others. It's okay to take a day just for you. Not just okay, very necessary. Take a whole week, you deserve it. Skip the chores, delegate them out. Use whatever energy you have that day to do something nice for yourself. Reach out to that long lost friend or crazy cousin on the phone, have some laughs. Luxuriate. Pamper yourself. Sew something bright and cheerful and then wear it daily. I like crazy aprons and tie dye myself.
Here's hoping you find some cheer soon.

Hey, again. I wanted to add a couple things regarding finding joy. If I can't go far, I do little things like blowing bubbles into the wind on the deck, or feeding my squirrel. If I can venture outside, I like sunshine and water. Being in Maine this is readily available with all kinds of gentle to challenging walking.
I find a lot of the churches in my area have public dinners, concerts and that sort of thing, and the local library also brings in musicians and story tellers and some even offer daytime programs geared for adults - especially true in Florida. Since you like to knit and sew, maybe there's someone who wants to learn. You don't have to do the work and they can come to you.
Start small, and see what find. Hope you feel better soon. Jen

Thanks everyone: I know I have to get out of my comfort zone: I am good at talking myself out of almost anything. I do have one freind that I get out with once a week. My children are all out of the home and are very busy with their own lives. We did go over to my daughters on Friday evening and ordered pizza. I am taking more about during the day. I do have lots to keep me busy but I am trying to talk myself in volunteering at a seniors facility just to visit. I have never been a comfident person, but I hope next week I can report back and let you all know I did take the challenge. I wish we could all meet someday. Thanks again!

Hi, Tammy,
Getting involved in a local church is a wonderful thing as they do have many outreach programs during the week.
I have an active life and one thing I do in addition to going to church is volunteer at a hospital once a week. I eventually started a pet therapy program there, and it is so much fun!! Right now there are 7 certified therapy dogs, a certified therapy bunny and 2 certified therapy kitties who live at their own homes and come to visit the patients with their human parents. On top of the joy of volunteering, you can make great friends. Make sure you find your niche in your volunteer work, too, and work around positive people.

Tammy, I want to thank you for reminding me that I too, need to get out more. It can be frustrating to have such fatigue. Like you, its like now that I am do better it seems to be harder. As if I don't have to fight so much so I don't fight at all.
Anyway, thank you for pointing the mirror on me.

Hi Everyone: Today I had to attend a Cancer information meeting for the future Care of my mom. That was good for me because I realized there are worse off people than what I have. Also, I have a meeting with the volunteer coordinator at a nursing home and hope to do volunteering there. I need to give of myself inorder to take the focus off of my disease. Take Care I will keep you informed as to how this all works out.
