so apparently b/c I don't take pain medicine every day, and b/c I don't see a shrink or therapist for my depression - I won't get approved for SSDI. I don't take pain meds every day b/c they loop me out - and then I cna't take care of my kids! Who's going to do that? I can barely do it now - the kids and husband do everything around the house, except laundry. And I drive the kids to and from school. I can't drive if I'm on these meds! And I don't see a shrink b/c I've been on anti-depressants for YEARS! And I've been on the same meds for years! So my fam doc prescribes! (I used to see a shrink for many years) PLUS - since quitting my job, I have no money to PAY for shrink! It's 3 times as much as my fma doc copay! (AND my oldest son is seeing a therapist and shrink after trying to commit suicide in august - I can't afford another one of us to be seeing someone when my fam doc can do the same thing!) SO frustrating. What's the freaking point in trying to be a good mom - when SS expects me to be looped out on meds? I'm so mad right now.

Sorry to hear about your frustration, melaniej. I don't know exactly what happened in your case so I cannot comment, however, there may be things you can do to maximize your chances of winning on appeal, such as obtaining the opinion of your treating rheumatologist that you are disabled indicating the side effects of the medications. I do not know your vocational profile either or your past relevant work or other details. It is important, in general, to be persistent in these cases. I recently won a case for a client after a four year battle with two hearings, two appeals to the Appeals Council and an appeal to federal court. It was very gratifying to win after all those appeals.

Thanks Rich. I may try again in the new year. I am taking the advice and seeing a pain specialist - but I do still feel awkward taking pain pills. I'm a nurse - and I'd really like to be able to go back to work one day (though I'm not sure that wil happen). I don't wnat to be hooked on pain pills. \:\(

Thanks for the advice!
Melanie
