Man o man! I saw the dr yesterday and he gave me a new drug to try for my fibro pain, topamax. Off label. I've tkane two doses so far I I can barely talk. I keep slirring my words and I can't think of what to say. my poor husband keeps laughing at me! Good thing we work at the same place and he can drive!

I have a bone scan today and luckily am only working a couple hours while the stuff gets into my blood cause I don't want my boss to see me like this much. He may think I'm goin insane! Or an drunk! I explained to him in an e-mail about it but now I'm afriad of what I worte! \:D

I woke up this morning laying flat on my back and flet so relaxed, better then any muscle relaxant! I thought to myself, hmmm I can't move my mulscels! Then all of a sudden the almarm went off and I jumped. Then I thought oh I guess I can move!

I know I'm going to look back at this thread and think what the heck was I writing! I really hoepe this "drunk" feeling goes away!

LOL, been there. It is funny we feel the need to post or send email while in that condition. Your post is fine though, let us know if the new med works.

i've been on topamax for years (for migraines) and I'm still hurting. What dose are you on? I know if I accidentally take too much - I feel that way. (I take 200 mg, and normally got 100mg pills so I'd take 2. Once they refilled at 200mg pills so I took 2, not thinking. And thinking they looked different b/c it was generiic or something. Another time I forgot I had taken them! So I took them again a few hours later. That'as actually happened a few times! oops!) Hope you feel normal soon and they help w/ your pain! (maybe you'll get some weight loss out of it too! For a long time they made me lose weight and keep it off. Now - it odesn't do anything. darn!

No freakin way! 200 mg? You can still function???

Topomax is a great migraine medication if you can handle the side effects. A bonus to this medication is weight loss too!

I only took 50 mg. a day. After 3 months, my short term memory was completely shot. I stayed on it for about 9 months thinking my body would adjust but it couldn't. When my hubby jokingly said he loved the fact that he could win every argument because I couldn't remember anything anymore to prove my point, I knew it was time to stop..LOL.. too bad because it worked on my migraines. But I had become so dumb that I couldnt stand myself. I guess I had become my own personal idiot. Lol
The benefit wasnt worth the side effects for me.

My girlfriend who also suffers from migraines (no AS) took 150 mg. of Topomax and she almost lost her job because of the memory loss. She couldn't remember how to fill out the every day standard contracts that she had been filling out for years!

I have never heard taking them for pain. These is anti-seizure medication. technically a migraine is a seizure in the brain.

There is a reason that it is nicknamed 'Dopamax'!

My neurologist wanted to give it to me 2 years ago for my migraines, but the potential memory problems scared me off. I already have a bit of a problem remembering names and phone numbers.

Garden, I hope you are able to keep taking it if it helps your pain.

huh, interesting. I did 100 mg for a long time then upped to 200 mg. I do have memory loss - but am on other meds too - and don't sleep well - so I never associated it w/ the topamax. go figure!

You need to let your dr know what you are doing!

Dopamax...LOL. I didnt know that..too funny.

Melanie, is your brain fuzzy at 200mg? My fingers were tingling and hurt like the dickens if they got too cold at 50 mg. What happens when you get up too fast from lying down? Does the wooziness almost overwhelm you? What about soda pop? Is it yucky? Does your eyesight kind of jump around wierd?

There is a great website called Ask a Patient and people list all their side effects from certain drugs. Here is the link to Topamax. You'll find it interesting.

Christy, I get weird feelings if I take too much. My brain has been fuzzy for awhile - it's one of the reasons I quit my job. I was so worried I'd make a mistake that would hurt someone. And then I DID make a mistake - and while no harm was done - it really stressed me out and when my dad had his stroke, I decided the time had come. (I needed to be tehre for my dad too) I can't say it's associated w/ topamax. The tingling hands and dizziness and all that I get if I take too much. (which has happened!) I've ALWAYS had lightheadedness and stuff (things go black) when I stand up. The docs always told me it was cuz I'm anemic, or dehydrated or low blood pressure - or whatever. But I've been that way since I was a kid. It didn't get worse on topamax. My eyesight doesn't jump around - but my vision has gotten INCREDIBLY bad over the last few years. I started wearing bifocals about 4 years ago. I'm 37 now! My doc told me I have "old" eyes. LOL! Soda pop doesn't bug me - but there are lots of times I get a metallic taste in my mouth. I'll go check out that site. Thanks! I'm not willing to really give up the topamax tho cuz it DOES help. ;\)

OK I still feel real funny. I didn't take my dose this morning. I just can't. I can't function. I can't think. I can't talk. I don't want to lose my job because of this! If i took it this morning I couldn't have come in, I'm in bad enough shape from the dose last night, my face feels all tingly my fingers too, which I can deal with. But it makes it so I can't eat at all which means I can't take my pain killer. My back is killing me! I have to eat to take it. I feel so out of it and light headed. My tongue feels swollen. Not allergic swollen, tongue tied swollen. I also get wooziness and jumpiness with my vision a bit too.
