Umm yeah, all those sort of meds are like that. Gabapentin, Carbamazepine, Topamax. Make you feel "dumb as a box of rocks" LOL. Horrid.
Like the others, familiar with it as a migraine med. Don't think I was on it long enough to say whether or not it worked. Couldn't handle the side effects.

I put a call into the dr saying I can't take it. I also tried the others too, elavil worked ok for a bit but made me hung over, neurtonin worked great for about 2 months then stopped working and gave me horrible side effects. Lyrica gave me horrible side effects from the start. He said there was another to try, but I don't think I want to just yet. I'm desperate, but tired. I want to see what the bone scan says (they found something on it and had to do x-rays right afterward.) The dr said depends on what the scans says as to what drugs he'll try next.

Yep, been there took it years ago as a migraine prophylactic, but didn't remember why I stopped and tried again couple years ago for nerve problems. Anti-spasmodic/epileptic meds work by essentially slowing the brain. I had pitiful short term memory, aphasia, horrendous slowing everywhere: just trying to move a limb seemed to take extreme mental preparation before physical attempt began. "Dope-a-max" is different from others in the class in that weight loss rather than weight gain is more common.
However, for me, the effect on my mood was the deal breaker.
Similar to Neurontin, & to a lesser degree Lyrica, I get horribly depressed, almost suicidal from this Med class.
When FDA made all anti-epileptic meds add a black box warning re depression/suicidality, I figured out maybe it wasn't just "me."
Don't worry, it's not a real common side effect, but as I'd spent years being told my joint pain/fatigue, etc was due to depression, stress, fibro, I can tend to knee-jerk and think something's wrong w/me, rather than checking on new med S/E.
Good luck, and if you do have good pain relief you can always talk w/your Dr abuot trying a different med from that same class?
Warmly, Susan

OMG, sounds like you should quit that stuff immediately. I could not tolerate any of those side-effects.

I am with Mark! Medicines are a personal thing. If they are causing any kind of problem that may even harm you, or may I add cause problems when walking or even driving then call your dr. There are other meds out there to try.
