Overnight my hubby developed severe swelling and pain on one side of his face...we went to the VA where they did a CAT Scan and cultures, no abscesses, no abnormal white blood cell count so he was sent home with antibiotics. A good portion of the swelling has gone down but midway up his face it is very hard and it is hurting him pretty good. Is this part of the Spondylitis? Has anyone experienced this before? Thank you

They should do an MRI. CT sometimes cannot detect density changes in the head and face. I have not heard of this...it sounds more like a vascular issue. Sometimes infections also take time to reveal themselves. Has he had dental work done. An exam could be helpful as well. stay on top of this.

My mother had a similar reaction, as an allergic reaction to chigger bites elsewhere on her body. It wasn't restricted to one side of her face, but mostly centred near her lips. Has he encountered anything that might have caused an allergic reaction? It might not hurt to take benadryl just in case.
