I am sure everyone who is lucky enough to go into "remission" has a different experience.I have moderate AS and have been in "remission" for about 7 years now. I consider myself lucky and appreciate each day.

It's a question I can not answer. It's been active for me continuously since 1988. I've had periods that were less active than others, but never in remission.

I have AS since early 1990s, but no pain for a little over five years now, I am not on any medication only for uveitis when it flares up, last time I got uveitis was three years ago.

6volt,

I was Dxed in the mid 80s, had about three years of moderate to severe pain where the pain seem to carry up into my lower thoracic area and then pretty much overnight, disappear (except for aches). I stayed there for about 10 years until it affect my shoulder, then my neck 19 years later and since has been back often with vengeance so for me....it was almost 20 years.

My error was thinking I didn't need to be under medical watch as during that down time, a lot was still going on that I'm fighting now.

That's an excellent point. Just because you aren't feeling pain or other symptoms doesn't mean nothing is going on.

I was in remission for 4-5 years from 1997 to 2002. In that time I did 2 Ironman triathlons, 7 marathons and more then 50 misc. races. Unfortunatly, its back.
