So am still waiting for appointment on Monday , but have had what I think is costocondrotis ... rib bone near heart hurts and hurts when I press on it... now it seems like it's a bit swollen tonight and red with a little fluid? Is this normal for rib joints to swell? Please help!

Test it: raise your hand up and stretch all the way in air - do your rib and other joint feel sore?

I raised my hand and no pain but sometimes there is when I raise it. sometimes it stabs when I turn the wheel in my car... the swelling part is what's scaring me... never had that and fluid? I mean I guess swelling is fluid

It could be Tietze syndrome. Tietze syndrome is similar to costochondritis, but includes swelling.

Be sure to report it to your doctors in case they want to verify that that's what it is. Tietze syndrome is not a serious thing, although it can be quite painful.

And stop poking at it. smile That will just irritate it and make it worse.

My daughter has costochrondritis, but it is intermittent. I think it's just one of those things you poor people with AS have to put up with. She also sometimes gets pain around her sternum.
