I just had my first shot of Humira literally an hour ago! I'm very excited to be on my way to getting some relief for my ankylosing spondylitis. In other people's experience, how long did it take for any noticeable effects to occur?

With both Enbrel and Humira, I noticed measurable improvement overnight. Enbrel was my first biologic. I took my injection late afternoon. I went to bed unable to reach down and touch the ground. I woke up able to reach down and touch the ground. It was amazing. That said, most people take weeks or months to see significant improvement so my result is outside of the normal range. Best of luck! Keep us posted.

46, diagnosed with AS in early 2005 and on TNF-blockers since then: They have been miracle drugs for me. On Enbrel from spring 2005 to Nov 2008. On Humira from Nov 2008 to present. Baclofen and OTC anti-inflammatories as needed.

I'm on Humira, and improvement was a gradual process for me. Small improvements at a time. One day I would realize I could actually bend down to put on my pants, another day I would realize I had not taken a nap all week, etc. It took probably 4 months for it to totally kick in.

I hope you have instant results like Mary Beth, but don't be discouraged if you don't. Give it plenty of time.

Fingers crossed that Humira is your wonder drug!

Mary Beth, thank you for your response. I'm a little more than 48 hours since my first shot and I *think* that I can already feel some positive effects from Humira. It's difficult to tell because there are some random days when my pain level is as low as it is now, but I'm hoping this won't be a random thing, that the pain will keep decreasing. It's emotionally very strange: I don't know if today, one of the first days I got out of bed without experiencing extreme pain, is going to be my future, or if the pain will be back in full force tomorrow. Time will tell, I suppose. Humira claims that the range of time it takes for noticeable effects to occur is 2 weeks to 3 months. Let's hope that things will just keep getting better smile

Ginny, thank you for replying. I think I'm experiencing positive effects, but it is so early in that it may be a fluke. I appreciate your response, it will keep me patient.

It took 8 weeks for Enbrel to kick in for me. I felt a couple of days with mild improvement prior to that, but one morning eight weeks after my first shot, the effects were dramatic.

My response was like Ginny's. Subtle changes gradually over time. One of the first things that went away for me was my heel pain that had been there for years- that went away 2-3 weeks after starting Humira. Then the fatigue started to lift. Spine pain took longer, and SI-joint pain probably took the longest. I got the maximum benefit at about 6 months in then there have been no better changes since then.
