I figure if I'm every pain free, I've just died.

Actually, though, I figure about 50% of my mental energy is used to manage pain & keep it in the background.

ken,
reading your post is like reading what i'm living!!! hehe!! i was pain free for the beginning of my second pregnancy, and for a few months after giving birth. i started hurting again, but i made myself last for 6 months so that i could give my baby a good start breastfeeding her. i've never been so happy for pain meds in my life. and it wasn't like it took it all away, just enough to be able to do something like...hmmm.....laundry? ....dishes....anything!!! you describe it so well how people look at you like you are full of it!! my family lately (well just my mother and sister) are telling me that i just need to go back to work and that from what they read , a.s. isn't that bad. not to mention that i have fibro and osteo as well, and more recently some heart issues, i am so totally faking it!!! hehe!!! my hubby convinced me to ignore them if they bring it up, and not to bring it up at all with them, and so far it has worked. for me anyway!!!
hey , at least someone asked you how much pain you were in!!! most of the time people could care less. you don't walk around moaning or anything, so you must be ok, right?
anyway, good post!!! thanks!!

I don't even bother answering questions about how I'm feeling, because I invariably get the "you look great" response. No one really wants to hear how bad you feel anyway. Even my husband, who travels and calls each night to see how I'm doing and asks, "how do you feel", really doesn't want to hear me complain, so I don't. If I answer "not that great", then they just proceed to the next question without a pause, so it is just a "courtesy" question and not real concern. When my husband's back goes out, he complains constantly and loudly, and yet he has no concept of me going through that on a daily basis, day in and day out. His pain eventually goes away, so he just figures mine will too.
