I've got a new thing happening with one ankle - it's been swelling up on and off for a week or more now, it's not painful but a bit warm. It affects my gait and this morning I had more trouble than usual putting my shoe on that foot.

I've been using an icepack which helps a bit.
I've got some Voltaren gel, should I try that too?
any other suggestions welcome please!

I haven't twisted it or sprained it or anything - it just swells up all by itself

Stupid ankle? STUPID ANKLE! STUPID stupid ankle!!!
Wish I had a dime for every time I've said that!
Both ankles bothered at first, then left, now right kicking in.
Ice or heat or cold water. Wax dip helped for a time.
stay strong! Cartlige was gone on left one before Enbrel, had to have subtaylor fussion, 2 screws 4 inchs in length thru heel....at least I can walk now!

the thing that seemed to help me was stretching. move your foot around - stretch it out. at least as much as you can - i feel your pain though. foot / ankle pain really really sucks.

If you are already on an anti-inflammatant pill- i.e. oral voltaren, don't use voltaren gel along with it...you'll be doubling up on your doses.....

Pick one and go with it.

I have a problem with one ankle swelling too. Apparently (according to my doctor) it's caused by the blood pressure meds I am taking. I'm inclined to believe him as the problem only started when I started on the meds but I have to wonder why it's only one ankle.
I'll find out for sure soon as the doctor changed the BP meds when I went yesterday.

hmmm - if it's a side effect of meds you'd think both of them would swell.....

I'm not on BP meds so it can't be that, my ankle is just stupid
actually it's not too bad today, but both knees are stiff and crunchy

maybe it's the weather?

or maybe it's just me :-)

I also had one ankle at first that swelled and when I asked the gp dr about she felt it and said "it's pooled". Now both ankles have "pooled" what ever that means. I never had problems with my ankles until the pooling, but have a long standing dx of plantar fasciatis. Since the ankle problems I've started having awful pain in my calves too so I do stretch my legs and ankles alot. My rumy didn't say a thing about the ankles but put me on potassium and magnesium for calves. Any of this familar?
