Hello,

This is not officially AS related but I want to find out if there is any correlation with AS.
I had an MRI done in January which confirmed a tibia stress fracture. My GP told me to use crutches for at least two weeks. I was on crutches for two months. I began walking without crutches in March, and successfully pain free. One evening this week, I cycled gently for 70 minutes and was so happy it didn't hurt. However the next day it hurt and it still hurts now. Hot, warm, dull ache, and spasms of sharp pain.

My rheum said it was not related to AS. I check every injury with him now, as I suffered with PF for 18 months without knowing it was a symptom of AS. Very frustrating.

Does anyone have experience with a stress fracture? Have any insight into tendonitis? Or know how long a stress fracture healing should take?

I don't know why I got a stress fracture. I was running 6 miles, once to twice week. I was told this isn't high enough running mileage to get a stress fracture. My job is a bicycle courier, and I haven't been able to work for the last 3 months. Don't really know what to do next. Any opinions very much appreciated. Thank you.

Have you been tested for osteoporosis? AS sufferers are at very high risk for it, and it can make you more prone to stress fractures.

No I haven't and I didn't know that either. Thank you. I will ask my GP to get a check. Hopefully he'll agree. & hopefully I won't have it. smirk

My GP said it was really strange it still hurt. He sent me to a consultant who told me to take it easy for another two months. If it still isn't better in two months, I'm going to really start thinking it's tendonitis and related to arthritis somehow.
