Many (most?) of you may be aware of this site, but just in case you are not... http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.facesThis site has a spot to click on that by doing just that, simply clicking your mouse on it, will cause a donation of pet food to be donated to an animal shelter. There are no gimmicks or tricks, no money to spend, nothing else for you to do -- just click on the big purple "click here" button on the site and an amount of food worth .6 bowl of pet food will be donated.  If you are interested, visit the site and give it a try. You can click once a day, every day. I have added the site to my favorites list so I can remember to click every day. By scrolling down on the site, you can see how much food is donated each day.

I receive a reminder daily in my e-mail...and I always at least half a dozen times to be sure to feed animals in shelters! Come on everyone, it's fast and easy ...AND THE ANIMALS DEPEND ON US!!!

I finally took a look at this website. I have been reluctant to because in my previous job we were constantly drilled about computer scams and viruses, so I am cautious about a lot of things. But I did go ahead and click! It looks like the advertisers make the donations that pay for the food.

Hi Cindy Lou, When I was growing up my family had a dog exactly like that one, apricot colored, dark face, long hair..that one looks like his identical twin...his name was 'Hercules'...we called him 'Herky'...he was such a neat dog and so much fun! He looked almost human with his long hair parted in the middle..he had really fluffy legs too and looked like that when he ran..when I saw that pic I just had to post it. Glad you like it Hi Cat, I found that winky cat on a fun dog and cat website, (can't remember which one off hand) and figured this would be a good thread to post it on its winky #2 lol..I like your winky cat alot. Everyone, thanks for all the loving "Bumps", and the great pictures!! Here in Iowa, the floods have left some animals homeless. This is sure to be true in the other states affected by the Floods of 2008, too. Thanks for supporting these pets in shelters that need our help in whatever way we can give. Sherri

Thanks Jonathon for the reminder, I always go to the site and give petfood to shelters on a daily basis. It's so easy to do and doesn't take much time. I hope that everyone here does the same thing. ;)Oh and by the way, I love this picture. He/she is such an adorable hound.

I haven't been able to post much for months now, due to AS, fibro., diabetes complications from the AS and fibro., blah-blah-blah. BUT I really, really, really appreciate everyone caring and bumping and posting this thread!! This is such a great cause, and with everything the way it is, they need us now for sure!! As a side note, tomorrow, 2/16/09, we are hosting a shelter dog at our home to see if everyone is compatible -- yikes!!   It should be a BUSY day, and hopefully a GREAT day. He is a red lab that has been spending the last several months at a local prison being trained in basic things like sit, stay, house training, socializing, etc. (We already have three "kids" at home, two Boston Terriers and a Great Pyrenees, so already a busy, full house when they are all in motion! :D) Anyway, thanks to all who contribute by clicking on the site, bumping this thread, perhaps donating time/talents/treasures/love and homes (foster or forever) to these animals. Jonathon, I loved the message with the last picture. If we can change even one life, it is so worth it. I continue to do my part each and everyday. I was reading an article a couple of days ago about how the foreclosures affect everyone in a family, including the pets. Alot of them are left behind.  I don't know how anyone could be so cruel.

Just did today's "click"! Such a great cause!! Cindy, you are so right about the economy today and animals being dumped either at shelters/pounds or just out on their own. Durango, the red Lab we hosted on 2/16, visited us the following weekend. That visit went very well, and he came home to stay the very next Friday, 2/27/09!!! It has been SUPER BUSY in the house, and he is just very joyful, bouncing and running and playing -- he can't seem to get over brothers, a sister, and ALL THE TOYS!!!!!! The two inmates who worked with him did a great job, and he was well-liked by the other inmates at the prison, too. (My husband works at the prison with this dog program.) The sad thing is the folks at the animal shelter think he was dumped by whoever had him first just because he needed some eye surgery due to inverted eyelids.  He was picked up as a stray, and had eye infection and damage in both eyes. The shelter had surgery done, meds, etc., and he is a real sweetheart! His eyesight seems to have recovered, yeah! He is just beautiful, and great conformation. We may have to have the surgery updated to help him out, as the vet didn't want to take too much tissue at first, but he is definitely worth it! I don't understand people, overbreeding and/or buying pets and tossing them away like garbage when the poor animals need food, care, love and it isn't convenient for THEM any more. Sure wish I could find the patience to learn to post pictures of our precious "kids" to share. But then, I'd also have to fight through the thickness of the brain fog... Hi Sherri! That is such great and happy news about Durango! I am so grateful he found his way to you guys!!! He sounds like a really wonderful dog! And so happy now! And his surgery went well and his eyesight has improved again..that is so fantastic to hear!!! Lots of hugsss for Durango! I would be very happy to help you learn how to post pics on here Sherri. We went to pick up all the household after the last week at Mayo. It is great to have all the gang home and together with us again! We thought we were kind of crazy to have four dogs, but while my husband was inside the prison picking up Durango, the rescue Lab we just adopted (we didn't want to introduce him to a new kennel experience just yet and staff can kennel their dogs with inmates), two Correctional Officers who had worked with me at the facility in our town saw me. They had transferred to the prison where my husband works some time ago, and were coming on shift. They came over to talk, and I asked how many dogs they had now. They are up to FIVE!!! She said the dogs are all rescue dogs. And doing great! Of course as her husband kind of rolled his eyes, I had to ask: "But there still aren't as many dogs as guitars, right?" He had to admit that no, there weren't as many dogs as guitars in the house. He is up to FOURTEEN (expensive!) guitars. Gotta love our pets! Sherri

The article I read about Santino indicated that the zoo decided to "take care of the problem" by castrating him, and then did follow through on this plan.  And they thought he was mad BEFORE. (And the article indicated he was responding to taunting by/from zoo visitors.) Humans. Sherri
