Hi Mr. Feingold,

My name is Heather, I am Active Duty Air Force and facing a possible medical discharge. My question is whether or not i'll be able to receive Disability or Social Security once I get out. I have no idea what kind of things have to happen to get those though an am very interested to learn. I am trying to put pieces together so when I do make my decision on whether or not to get out I can be informed and not too freaked out. LOL.
Being in the Air Force offers unwaivering stability, and the thought of not being in it anymore is a little unnerving. I know in the "real" world I'll be able to hold a job and keep up, I just can't in the military anymore due to the PT requirements.

So do you have any links or anything that I can reference on this. Also, I have access to Lexis Nexis, as I am going to school to be a paralegal if you have any Statutes or anything that I can read up on also.

Thanks in advance for you time and information.
Heather

Hi, Heather. Well, one of the first things you may want to do is to talk to SSA to determine whether you have paid enough FICA taxes to be eligible for Disability Insurance benefits and if so, how much you would be paid.

Also, I ask any potential client who calls me whether or not they are in treatment and seeing a specialist.

SSA's website (www.ssa.gov) has tons of useful information regarding the disability process and soon my website will have a FAQ section also.

These are just a few comments, not meant to be exhaustive.
