I have been a nurse for 14 years. It is all I know, and all I have ever done. I have felt terrible pain and stiffness for years, but have always blown it off to working too hard. Recently I was diagnosed with AS. I am still trying to work, but it is becoming increasingly difficult, and unfortunately my employer is not being sympahetic to my physical pain and limitations. I have looked for other jobs, but have not been hired, probably because of my inability to lift. I cant afford to quit my job, I have two young children to care and provide for. What can I do. Im so tired of crying....

It's a tough situation. I'm sorry. Keep looking for a new job; I'm sure you'll be able to find a nursing position that is not so strenuous. I stupidly dropped out of college and 25 years later am a single mom with no work history and active AS.
Micki mom to 9 dx'ed Non-hodgkins Lymphoma May '08; relapse Nov '11 dx'ed AS May '09, suffering on and off since '79

Hi Steph and Micki. Steph - if you are wondering what your chances of success in a Social Security disability claim might be, you may want to talk to an attorney who practices in this area of law. They can review your impairments, your age, the demands of your work and give you a better idea as to whether a Social Security disability application is the way to go. They also would want to know what your doctors think about your continued ability to work and whether they would be supportive. Sorry to hear about the problems you are having at work.

Thank you very much Rich. I have contacted an attorney, not so much to obtain disability benefits, but to protect myself as an employee of a company who doesnt seem to be concerned about my well being. Things are looking up, and fortunately I have a great deal of support from my family! I can see some sunshine through the clouds. Thanks again!

Wow - I just love the phrase, "I can see some sunshine through the clouds." Keep visualizing that - that is so positive. Good luck with everything.

Thanks.I am a firm believer that God delivers. It may not be in the package I thought it would be in, but he has ultimate control, and I have faith in that. He works to provide and I have come to the realization that all is done in my favor. Not to change the subject, but did anyone else experience acute abdominal changes after the infusion? After my first Remicade infusion I felt fine for 2-3 hours. Then I had uncontrolable diarrhea and vomiting. Everything I took in came out in one way or the other. Is that normal? I am 5ft 3in and weigh 103 lbs.

Hi, steph. You may wish to post the question about side effects to the general message board. I think you may get a better response. I'd be interested in hearing what responses you do get.
