 Awesome new symptom

Whenever I take a step my big toes hurt like hell. It seems to be the tendon on the top of the big toes, the one that you flex to make them go up. It hurts to walk, but doesn't prevent me from walking. Its in both feet, and I've never felt anything like it before.
Needless to say, this doesn't make me happy.
Anybody else have a symptom like this?

When mine first started I had that. The tendon was red and swollen and it was very difficult to walk. Dr's could never tell me what it was, said it was like the tendon was stuck.Had xrays and other stuff. I had to flex my toe the best I could and it finally went away.I still have to "exercise"my big toes tokeep it from happening again. I figure now that it was like tendonitis or something. I'm positive it was/is related.
I would be unstoppable, if I could just get started.

It sounds like when I get a "charlie horse" in my feet. Almost like the muscle or tendon is getting stretched wrong. I am sorry you are having a hard time...definitely check with the doctor if it lasts too much longer. Feel better soon.

I went through a period with unusual toe pain and swelling when I was on Remicade (and the Remicade was slowly failing, leading to inflammation and swelling in a number of joints). In my case, it came and went. After switching to Humira, which works better for me, it all went a way.

Yes that is one common with myself. You do have to be aware if it lasts that it may be gout but my dr also said osteoarthritis is common with the feet too with AS. ANother added blessing!!

Yes, I had a toe flare last year. It looked normal, but I could hardly bear any weight on it at times. It eventually went away completely, so I prays yours will, too!!

Yes! The first several years, I constantly had a hot, swollen big toe and sometimes the next toe as well. The swelling was so bad that I had to buy shoes a 1/2 size larger. Later on, the ball of my foot became affected and then the achilles tendon as well. Fortunately for me, it was one foot or the other and never both feet at the same time. I couldn't imagine you having both big toes at one. Gosh! that hurts like heck and I makes you walk with a limp (at least for me). so sorry.

Yes. But mainly it comes and goes pretty fast.
Like my big toe will hurt before a storm arrives... or for a couple of days before I flare badly. Its like a little throbbing warning. LOL

Thanks everyone.
Whatever this is seems to be constant. At rest the toes are fine, but when I put my weight on them they hurt. It is making it difficult to walk, sometimes I have to curl my toes up just so I can keep going. I have a decent amount of plantar faciitis, so my feet hurt as it is. Whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon! (And I really hope its not gout!)
