I'm tired of all the little scares. At least if my tubes are tied I'll know I'm not pregnant.

Question: I'm on Remicade. Anyone had this done while on a biologic? Did they make you stop taking it?

Andie,

After much talk, my husband had a vasectomy. It's easier (a few hour surgery, a couple days recovery) and less likely to have to worry about a tubal pregnancy.

I do not know your relationship status, so that would be a big factor.

My husband is only 36, and we talked long and hard about what it would mean if something happened to me and he met someone a bit younger who wanted kids. But in the end, it's what worked for us.

My guess is they'd want you off a biologic for several weeks before surgery, because of the risk of infection and also the risk of not clotting as easily. But I'm not sure.

Best of luck with your decision. Consult your rheumy about it.

My Rhumy told me that any surgery would have to be planned for the very end of the 8 week cycle. After surgery you wait for the "all clear" from your surgeon to get your next infusion.
I had skin cancer surgery while on remicade. I scheduled it at the end of the 8th week. I waited 3 weeks to heal and went right back on remicade. I've had no problems.

A tubal is not really a big thing. The worst for me was the gas they pump into your abdomen. It felt uncomfortable and was actually the hardest thing for me. I had 3 little bandaids afterwards. That's where they inserted the tubes. One to see what they were doing and 1 to do the work and 1 for the gas to keep the abdomen extended.
